She's one of the three characters I can actually stand (her, Isaac, and Grayson). I should put that in past tense now, because ultimately, her reason for leaving was horrible, and I'm not sure I even like her now.

Her staying home seemed down right illogical to me.

1. The doctor had a fix for her problem

2. No one respects her on her home planet and they've written her off almost as mentally deficient.

3. She finally makes peace with her father and he respects her chosen profession. So now that she's got her life's desire to make her parents proud of her and her profession...she just quits her job. Made zero sense to me. She had just turned her father into her biggest fan...and she just gives that up to spend time with him? Ugh. I doubt even he wants that.

I read somewhere that one of the writers in season 1 had the idea that Alara has some sort of gravity control device in her quarters so her muscles wouldn't atrophy. But I guess this episode nixes that idea.

But episodes like this (I hate Trek's "Amok Time") really piss me off because they turn the entire setting into morons. All of these species specialities should be ironed out decades before they're even allowed to serve on ships.

Bah Amok Time is like...the best episode out of the whole Trek franchise. Not that this Orville episode is any way close to that episode. But only a monster hates Amok Time.

Amok Time has probably my favorite TOS Trek moment when Spock gives Stonn advice

Frankly though, this was just a tiny straw that broke the camel for me with this series. I was already not liking it very much when the season began, and they've batted a zero thus far.

Yeah I would give these 3 episodes a C+ so far.

And ugh... that Warburton alien guy.

Oh I liked him. But I always like seeing Warburton.
