The series has effectively ended for me and right now I feel as thought they've managed to kill any future desire to watch it again as a whole...

I will still finish the show, but I can no longer immerse myself in its universe, as it's been broken beyond repair and the showrunners are not even trying to hide that they've grown bored with the project and want to be done with it, tailoring every choice to their own personal taste along the way (and, by extension, the part of fandom they represent).

I guess one could say that, if you are new or shut down reason and just wanna enjoy a fight, it was impressive... or it coulda been had the Lord of Light really been there...

Heck, since nothing matters anymore, why not go for broke? Why not crank up the spectacle to 11 and never look back? But they couldn't even do that right...

Drax the Legend, Captain of the Fist, The Starwalker, The Jade Slayer

I understand your frustration. I'm all for circumventing expectations, but not all circumventing is in good taste. Let me say before I go further that I was ok with Arya winning the day.

The main problem is they decided to ignore the Azor prophecy which would have lent credibility to any showdown against the NK. As it is they made him a force of nature. A being too powerful for that universe. Any traditional fight (sans Azor and Lightbringer) woyld be even worse than what we got.

NK and minions were the first thing we saw in episode 1. From there they were built up for 7 plus seasons as this great evil that would swallow the world. In the end the NK really didn't do much. He killed a dragon and destroyed the wall. That's about it.

If the NK was never meant to be anything but a mid boss, than why even bother introducing him?

As things stand, Jon has no purpose. Cersei has a massive army, sans elephants. The only plausible way for this to go down is to send in a strike team to assassinate Cersei. Then again why send a team? Just send Arya.

Only thing left that I want to see is the Cleagan Bowl.

"James told me there's an old saying here on Earth: May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
Not sure if Turian heaven is the same as yours, but if this thing goes sideways and we both end up there, meet me at the bar."

Legion: "They will exterminate your species because their gods tell them to. You cannot negotiate with them. They do not share your pity, remorse, or fear."
