Casting CW actors doesn't instill that much hope in me but who knows, maybe he'll be good.

I'm just always surprised when they start casting a season 2 of a show before season 1 has even begun to air. Maybe I'm old school and maybe there are different guarantees in place now. But in the old days, you'd air like half of season 1 before they would even decide if you were allowed to finish season 1. Back when shows were 22-26 episodes a season you could still get cancelled after 6 or 8. Some shows got cancelled after 1 or 2 depending on the response.

Doesn't this somewhat deflate the excitement for Pike heading his own show if you're already advertising that he will be supplemented by Kirk? Shouldn't you let people be excited for Pike first and then when the show gets tired, you bring in Kirk to goose the ratings? They don't want to blow the whole wad at once.

True, unless the ratings are already dipping, or fans have just stated they want Kirk.

Still if I remember right, in the main timeline; Kirk served on other ships as Lietuenant and gained many honors and medals, but wasn't Captain until he was given the Enterprise.

If he is appearing as Captain already then either they are giving him the ship right away, or else they have disregarded history as it were.

Hm, wonder what Shatner has to say? Too bad he appears to have burned all the bridges with him and the studio.
