The grim depressing tone of the first season seems gone and the show seems a bit more light-hearted now (but I liked grim and depressing!)

"That's the power of math people, yay!!"

Pass me the sick bucket!

Also, while I am at it, I cannot believe that Captain Pike stood there and let that woman they rescued speak to him like she did. I know she's been marooned 10 months and all, Picard would have never tolerated that in a month of Sundays. Kirk would have probably kissed her then punched her in the face!

Spock hasn't shown up in the present yet but we do see him in Michael Burnham's childhood flashbacks. Apparently he's still on vacation this episode. Michael gets anxious to reunite with her brother and is shocked when the enterprise sends over this annoying human guy as their science officer instead of Spock. Thankfully NotSpock gets the horrible death he deserves when he chooses to not listen to instructions.

I kind of feel NotSpock's death merely served as a reminder that Mary S... I mean, Michael Burnham is always right and you should never argue with her and definitely listen to her. I was actually sad he died, yes, he was a douchebag, but it would have been nice to see him make it regardless.

I thought we got an interesting insight into Sarek's family when he revealed WHY he adopted Burnham. He wanted Spock to learn empathy in case he had to work with humans in the future. He figured Spock would revere his mother too much to relate to her but he figured a sibling would give Spock that ability to relate to others

Given the fan fiction origin of Michael Burnham, similar to Sybok in ST V: The final frontier. It would seem that Spock disliked both his siblings in sufficient quantity to make him never mention them. But unlike Sybok, I can't really give this a free pass. Michael's origin still makes no sense to me especially as BOTH were serving in Star fleet. Sybok I get... he was a radical and he alienated his father and brother. But, Michael seems like she is Sarek's favourite after all... As a character origin I find it very meh...

Pike takes over the Discovery. I thought it was funny how he told everyone on the bridge to do a roll call and say their names...I don't think half of these characters had names in season 1.

Good job he did! He might actually speak to the crew a little and we may get to remember their names by the season finale. Burnham gave him a bit of attitude though when he said he didn't mind dissenting opinions as long as they came with solutions. I thought that was unwarranted.

There is also an interesting subplot about something endangering the galaxy this season called "The Red Angel" that Burnham gets a glimpse of.

Of course. Who else could have done this?
