I generally agree with you but the name recognition is something that gets more eyes than other original things tend to.

I was even onboard with some things getting remade because it could have been done better, but then the remake happens and it is meh.

One that comes to mind right away is George Romero's The Crazies. I enjoyed the commentary but it felt like it had potential to be great but did not get there. They remade it. It had good moments but came off like a forgettable zombie movie for the most part that only played on some of the better concepts a few times and were near the best parts of the film.

I have not see too many remakes be better, at least in recent years. Something like the Thing from 1981 and others have proven it can be done but it is rare.
