Previous Post It definitely loses something without Smith or Morpheus. I know Keanu is at a career peak but I might have preferred Neo to keep his happy ending and the Matrix lore to move beyond him like in the Animatrix. Might have some decent action but I'd rather see a hint of story.

Well Morpheus is in it, just with a new actor. For whatever reason, Fishbourne was not asked to return. Hugo Weaving was said to have schedule conflicts and couldn't return.

But I'm sure there is a new alpha level Agent to replace Smith who is ready to make the mental leap that Smith did in the first that the matrix feels like a prison for them, etc. etc.

As to the story, I'd like to know more too, rather then just feel like this will be a nostalgic romp through the old days like Indiana Jones 4 was.

The Oracle did state at the end that the peace would last as long as it could, the Architect agreed to start freeing humans from their pods and the Matrix to live in Zion, despite his lack of love for the humans.

The Oracle also did state Neo would return when he was needed.

The Neo we had last time was the 6th One and it was the 6th iteration of the Matrix. We did see emotional reactions of Neo on the Architect screens, but were those possible reactions of Neo-6, or the actual recorded actions of the previous Neo's? If so, then Neo is periodically cloned back to life, likely by the Architect to reintroduce the anomaly that triggers the decimation of Zion and the reset of the Matrix and Zion. Presumably this is to cull the population of those that resist the Matrix.

Trinity however was apparently a new element last time in that the Architect indicated that this Neo was in love, unlike the other 5. It was that love that made Neo go back to save her rather then trigger the restart and then he found another way to bring peace.

The Oracle however understands emotions, while the Architect cannot. She is the mother to Matrix as Architect is the father. If the Architect is bringing Neo back, then Oracle is likely ensuring that Trinity is cloned back to life also to be the love and support that Neo needs again.

As to why Neo and Trinity are back? Well the peace is likely ending and the Architect wants to press the big red button to reset the Matrix and Zion.
