For me, an exploitation movie isn't just a low-budget indie. It has to have an element of sleaze and bad taste to it.

I always looked at them as being somewhat in a more narrow grindhouse sort of time period too. Although, really, many genre films are exploitation movies regardless of budget if you want to get down to it.

    1. Cowards Bend the Knee (Guy Maddin)
    2. In the Realm of the Senses (Nagisa Oshima)
    3. Heavy Metal (Gerald Potterton)
    4. Dead Alive (aka Braindead) (Peter Jackson)
    5. Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (Danny Leiner)
    6. Female Convict Scorpion - Jailhouse 41 (Shunya Ito)
    7. Freaks (Tod Browning)
    8. Assault on Precinct 13 (John Carpenter)
    9. Dead or Alive (Takashi Miike)
    10. Private Vices and Public Virtues (Miklos Jancso)
    11. The Happiness of the Katakuris (Takashi Miike)
    12. Re-Animator (Stuart Gordon)
    13. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (Russ Meyer)
    14. Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (Russ Meyer)
    15. Initmate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan (Yuen Chor)
    16. Dagon (Stuart Gordon)
    17. Gefangene Frauen (aka Island Women) (Erwin Dietrich)
    18. Go, Go Second Time Virgin (Koji Wakamatsu)
    19. Daughters of Darkness (Harry Kumel)
    20. Criminal Woman: Killing Melody (Atsushi Mihori)

Look Raist bunnies...
