It's now confirmed that David Tennant and Catherine Tate are returning for the 60th Anniversary.

So I guess that means everyone else declined.

I wonder... you have to think he did try to get Billie Piper. I have no theories on why she might have not been available, but given both David Tennant and Catherine Tate are visibly older now I wonder if Davies' statement is a clue:

“They're back! And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”

There's been suggestions that the new Doctor will not be addressed as #14, that Davies might want to reboot in some way. I wonder then whether the statement above hints at this - "the battle of a lifetime".

Is Davies going to use an older Tennant and Tate to trigger some pseudo-rebooting of the timeline...? Allowing for a reset of sorts that frees him from the shows now ponderous and tainted baggage. \(fear\)
