Granted it is very lucky Bad Wolf and RTD stepped in at the 11th hour with an offer too good to refuse, but compared to the attitude and outright hostility of the early 1990s we are actually in a very good environment for rescucitating Doctor Who. With the way the economy is headed the future is never certain, so a great deal will hinge on how much of a success RTD and Bad Wolf can make this relaunch....

I wish I had your positivity. But I'm dreading RTD's return.

I honestly think he's going to use the platform Chibnall has given him to push things even further.

Sure, in the 90's the BBC's execs were generally hostile towards the show. But today's regime simply doesn't care about the show so long as it reflects their diversity and lifestyle policies.

So we have a 'new' showrunnner who potentially wants to go further down the road that's killing the show, hoping that good stories will translate to returning viewers, and a management structure that will enable and encourage him to do it.

The worst may be yet to come.

Have to admit, it is hard to imagine things getting worse for the series.

But it's possible...
