I'll admit I know nothing about UK ratings and demographics, but the scheduling seems horrible. I don't know what Countryfile is, but from the description I would guess it has an older audience than Doctor Who. I just don't know if you could expect any crossover in those audiences.

Countryfile is a magazine programme dedicated to farming and countryside topics.

I also don't know what the best ratings a show can pull in that timeslot is. Are there any shows that are doing 6-7 million in that timeslot at anytime of the year? What is the average that BBC1 does in that timeslot throughout the year?

I get that the ratings don't look good, I just don't know what you or anyone else is expecting them to be. Even if the show was at a creative high, would the ratings reflect that?

I think they would.

It seems to be getting harder to find what the ratings are for certain shows with each passing year. The only way to get ALL the data is to subscribe to BARB (The British Audience Research Board), but that ain't cheap, and I ain't rich. Sadly.

So a lot of the information that you, Davym and I would love to see just isn't available.

But what I CAN tell you is Doctor Who airs in the UK on BBC 1, Sunday, around 7pm.

I can also tell you that another British drama series Call the Midwife (A period drama about...well...midwives) also airs on BBC 1 on Sundays at 8pm, and the last series average ratings were 7.64m. The last episode transmitted on February 20th 2022 and scored 7.9m (These are the final figures, not overnights).

So good ratings are achievable in a Sunday evening timeslot. Doctor Who just isn't pulling those sort of ratings any longer.

Apologists will say 'Well, ratings are down across the board. Shows like Strictly and Dancing on Ice have collapsed too'. And that's true. But they're only measuring Doctor Who against other shows with similar falls. They won't measure it against shows that are still getting high ratings.
