Very sad to report the death of Damaris Hayman on June 3rd.

She was best known to Doctor Who fans for playing Miss Hawthorne, the white witch of Devil's End in the 1971 story 'The Daemons.

This news was very sad indeed for me as Damaris Hayman was truly one of the most memorable guest characters from the entire 1970s era, I have grown to appreciate The Daemons more and more over the years and finally arrived at the point where I agree with the consensus that it is the quintessential Third Doctor story, and there are so few now who are still with us who worked on that story...

It would be nice if someone picked up from the Telos novel and supporting video that featured her returning to the character and picked up on the ending to it, where Olive finally passes away, but only after leaving her mantle of Devils End's guardian to her returned sister, Poppy.

It would be a nice tribute to Damaris Hayman, and a fine way to ensure she receives a lasting tribute thanks to the the spin-off media.

But it is very saddening to hear the news she has passed. She was a very visible and popular part of the Jon Pertwee era, and we are lesser for her passing.
