As it now appears will be having first Black female Dr after current era expires, can the franchise survive going forward at all?
Does moving to a Black female Dr now feel that BBC is "doubling down" on being PC?
I think it can with the right creative staff, but it is going to have to probably go away again to do it. As the current show runner seems to really lack much ambition or even happiness in what he is doing and Jodi often seems to be going through the motions more than anything.
I am more optimistic, but who really knows? I think it could work, but you would need effort behind it and desire. The energy after the reboot faded a while ago and started to before there was a female Doctor really. Although that did not help by dividing the fandom and leading to the loss of the core fans that have been the tent pole of the series for years with all the various changes.
