    Doctor Who has no canon

Congratulations! You've successfully bought into another Nu-Who showrunners' myth.

EVERY ongoing series - whether tv show, film, books or whatever - has a canon. A history.

The Big Finish audio dramas gave an ending to the time war that was later flatly contradicted by what we saw on screen. In the comic strips the Hartnell Doctor has two pre-teen grandchildren, John and Gillian. The comics prior to 2005 also have a completely different 9th Doctor, based on Nicholas Briggs. The film Doctor was an earth scientist who created a space/time machine, and had two granddaughters.

None of the above is ever referenced in the tv show. Why?

Because none of it it canon.

The tv show has it's own unique history, separate from the other media, each of which have their own unique bodies of work.
