If this true, I can't believe what I have read.

Lamb is my favourite meat for a roast. In fact, lamb is known as my 'go to' to cook (after a curry).

Mint sauce as well, heck mint sauce on anything.

Personally, I love lamb. Especially a lamb chop, coated in egg and a bit of honey and bread crumbs... great summer dinner.

If I remember however, we don't raise as much of it, so it tends to be a bit more expensive than beef, chicken , or pork... and therefore carried by fewer grocery stores year round.

Even the restaurants it can be a bit pricier than its contemporaries, though often not by too much.

Also, in my experience (and that is all it is, me and some folks I know), mixed background families (Gentile and Jew) will have lamb roasts as substitutes for occasions that often have ham.
