I still think it comes down to a simple overall point.
I am not saying I don't agree with the traps or dangers or people fail to enjoy it.

But...simply put as an example...

Would you be happier having $2million dollars to spend in your life time?

Or would you rather have $200billion dollars to spend over your lifetime?

Which would make you happier? I think its self evident that at least 51% or more of people would actually be happier with the $200billion...and thus...money does buy happiness.

I think my problem is the idea of someone knowing that they would be happier if they had that much money. To me it's no different than someone claiming they know they would do something during a mass shooting. Do people believe they would be happier with that much money? Of course. However, no one really knows how they will react in a situation until they are actually in the situation.

Plus, how we determining happiness? I mean, yes, if people woke up tomorrow with $200 billion they didn't have today, they are probably going to be instantly happier. Is that happiness going to last? How are they going to feel 5, 10, 15 years down the line? zvelf makes a good point that once you get used to it, it won't feel as special anymore. I would imagine your level of happiness post-money would eventually be the same as your level of happiness pre-money.
