I have to go to the US for business again and I hate tipping. It makes eating in restaurants so horrid due to having to do maths. I would rather eat in fast food places.
I still can't believe this idiotic system still exists. I mean I wouldn't mind rounding up the bill (eg if the bill is $28.50, rounding up to $30) because its easier for all.
In some coutries, tipping is isulting as it feels like bribery. A taxi driver in Iceland will refuse to take your tip. Why? because his company actually pays him to do his job, like other jobs.
Imagine if all jobs worked on tips. Tip your doctor if he does a good job on your operation. Short change him and next time you need an operation, who knows what could happen.
Sorry, Im not looking for an answer to anything. Just ranting.
I mean, I ALWAYS tip and overtip, but that's just who I am! I am a bit TOO generous! You don't usually HAVE to tip, it's just a custom. It's also how waiters, etc, survive and how they make their money. It's also an incentive for them to do a GOOD job because they know that their livelihood depends on it. It's really up to you. If you feel that you are getting bad service, either don't tip or tip very little. I hope that helps.
