At least 20% is easy to calculate. Move the decimal point one position to the left and double the number. Then round up to the nearest dollar.

In California it's pretty easy as the tax is somewhere around 8.25%. So when I eat out, I just glance at the tax on the bill and double it.

What disgust me about tipping are bosses that justify paying their employee less because hey are subject to receive tips.

Yet a waitressing job can pay pretty well when tips are figured in. It's one of the best paying jobs a high school or college student can get. And it's very difficult work. I, for one, couldn't do it.

Agreed. I've had a lot of jobs, to include being in the Army, and working in a restaurant was the hardest one I've ever done. Sounds silly doesn't it? But you have to remember you are on your feet the entire 8 hour shift, and those tubs of dishes just get heavier and heavier as the day goes on.

The waitresses made considerably more than I did as the dishwasher. I made minimum wage plus maybe a dollar or two per hour.
