Subj: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director's Cut to be restored to 4K/UHD

I remember when Robert Wise's Director's Cut was released on DVD, but it was too bad that when TMP was released on Blu-Ray that it was back to the theatrical cut only. I certainly don't want the theatrical to vanish but I'd like to see both be preserved.

I don't think any new scenes were added to the DC, it was just new visual effects. Mostly to fix errors like the sun shining on Vulcan in one shot but then it being night in the next. But you also got to see the Vger craft outside of the cloud which was a new shot at the end of the movie.

I was surprised when someone said they had only rendered these new shots out in SD for DVD. You would think they would have been forward thinking enough to build them at least for HD for future use. I guess this new version is going to have to rebuild all these shots for 4K?

Too bad they can't build the scene from the comic and novelization where Kirk actually follows Spock inside Vger with a space suit. It's short anyway.
