I've been going through an 80s rock phase. "Alexa, play Def Leppard... play Whitesnake... play the Scorpions."

I know all those bands existed in the late 70s but I associate them with the 80s.

Do you go through musical phases like I do? What phase are you in lately?

Omnivorous.

Back in 2019 I had the impulse to re-listen to every album in my collection. I started out on October 18th of that year. About halfway through my journey, I decided I wanted to check out artists and bands I'd never really listened to before, discover new ones and listen to the discographies of those I'd only heard one or two albums by.

Tonight I'll be listening to the 2276th album (Mark Knopfler's 'Get Lucky').

It's been quite a ride. I've gone far wider and deeper than I originally intended to, taking in rock, pop, jazz, classical, electronic... Many different genres.

The earliest music I've listened to is Beethoven's Symphony no 1 (from 1800), and the latest is 'Juno to Jupiter' (Vangelis, 2021).

And there's no end in sight. Apart from the thousands of albums I've got waiting to go, I keep finding new artists, or discovering old ones. I don't think I'm going to make it to the end before I snuff it. \:\)

The bulk of the music would be my 90's gangsta rap. A good amount of video game music.

I'm definitely retro, for better or worse. I'm sure there's more new music of different styles out than ever before. But for some reason I'm rediscovering stuff from when I was a kid that I never listened to at the time. There was a Billy Joel phase. Then a disco phase. Currently I keep listening to a Mashup artist named Bill McClintock on YouTube who is combining mostly older songs of wildly different genre. He says that each one has a certain "that's not right" factor.

I went through a video game music phase! This evolved into an enduring enjoyment of J-Pop and K-Pop!

That's exactly how I got started on my current 80s phase! I wasn't a kid in the 80s but I was a 20-something and that feels kind of similar to me. Back then I ignored the hair bands. Now I'm falling in love with them!

You know what else fueled my 80s interest? The HBO TV series, Peacemaker. That show features 80s hair bands all the time!

You guys need this channel in your lives.

I like this guy's genuine love of the material, and I've discovered some great music through him.

It's been great. I wish I'd done it decades ago.

Well, right now I am starring at some Coltrane CDs.

I have been listening to the Desire album by Bob Dylan quite a bit recently.

I have had the song Cadillac Assembly Line by Albert King stuck in my head for a few days

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyBZnLuNJ7ku

I have been listening to a lot of Larkin Poe on youtube while I work, so I will probably pull out those CDs fort the car before too long. Probably the best new band I have discovered in a good long while.

The problem is, with me there are certain types of music that are seasonal. I love Psychedelic Rock in the Spring and Summer.

Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Simon and GArfunkel and Led Zeppelin fit like a glove when the leaves start to change.

Right now, the seasons are still in the in between, so I have not quite felt the need to look yet.

Though I can tell you my ind is starting to head towards
-They Might Be giants
-Amy Gore, Rolling Stones
-Suzi Quatro
-The New Pornographers (especially Challengers of the unknown)
-Husker Du
- the Wipers
-The Mountain Goats.

If history is any indicator, I will probably also probably start listening to MC5 before too long (gotta get that good 60s Detroit punk sound)

And of course I never go that long with out listening to in one of her incarnations.

It intrigues me that those who've answered have tastes that are not only eclectic (which in itself is intriguing) but which are open to the mellower end of the spectrum.

I never heard of Larkin Poe but I have it playing right now via Alexa. To me it has a 70s vibe. I haven't googled the band yet so I don't know when they arrived on the scene.

You've triggered a thread idea.
